PROJECT STATUS
Project initiated : September 2019
Location: Senegal

The challenge:  Scarce financial resources makes it difficult for the project to cover its monthly feeding budget.  There are about 10 children currently boarding
Achieved so far: Since September 2019, we have given financial support to the project every 3 months to provide food for the children
Support us: To continue to do this until we find a sustainable solution. We subsidise feeding at £3 per child per month.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Association des Handicapés de Thiadiaye Grace de Dieu- AHTGD was started in 2013 with the main objective to ensure the integration of disabled people into society like everybody else.  It was started by a young man Theo aged 34 who himself is a polio victim and is physically challenged.  His is a story of determination that brings hope.

We were challenged by his determination to change the story of the disabled community in Senegal.  He believes education is an important and powerful tool for “transforming the handicap people’s life”.  Unfortunately, we find that children with disability are usually sent out to beg to fend for themselves.

In May 2018, an Edufound team met for the first time with Theo.    With the right structures in place and funding,  the Association has the potential to transform the lives of the service users.  It can have a far-reaching impact on the community and be a catalyst for development in the region
