Our Story

Edufound is a charity organisation founded on a Biblical ethos seeking to positively impact education standards and relevance wherever we work.  We currently have projects in two countries.

As founding director of Edufound, three things challenged me when I was a young unqualified teaching assistant

  • the low standard of education in public schools
  • the content of what was being taught
  • the language barrier encountered by non-native English learners being taught in English

And I had to make a difference.  I am committed to seeing good standards of education established in public schools and ensure that children, especially in Africa have equal opportunity to develop themselves to their full potential.

At its inception, Edufound raised monies through its directors and, working mainly in the Gambia:

  • provided scholarships for 5 children throughout three years of primary school
  • funded the operational cost of two primary schools for one year
  • helped provide teaching materials and resources for a nursery school

Gradually the vision expanded.  Donations were received from various other individuals and organisations:

St. Thomas More RC primary school in Walderslade, UK generously donated furniture, equipment and stationery which were subsequently given to a primary school in the Gambia.  The staff of the International Court of Justice, the Hague also gave a significant donation to the tertiary school cause.  In collaboration with Develop AfricaUSA, we sponsored a tertiary institution for a three year period.

Edufound now has projects in both the Gambia and Senegal and we are taking measured steps to impact the educational system in both countries with the various projects we have engaged in.

Our Mission

Working primarily in Africa, Edufound exists to support education every way we can.  Our overall goal is to invest in all forms of education- both formal and non-formal as well as skills building and to participate in and influence policy making, curriculum development and publication of educational materials in order to enhance the quality of education in every country we access. This will ensure that beneficiaries, as a result of their training are able to better their standard of living and this would drive sustainable development.

Our Vision

  • To see every learner gain access to good quality holistic education
  • See each learner develop to their full potential
  • To make every learner confident through learning

Our Values

  • Pursue excellence in all we do and encourage schools & institutions to strive for excellence be it in training, student output and level of education
  • Provide equal opportunity for every child regardless of their background, gender or physical capability
